Stephanie Ford Forrester

Stephanie Ford Forrester’s intricate textile art is well known and highly regarded throughout Ontario. She has participated in the Art Gallery of Peterborough’s Autumn Studio Tour for the past seven years and is exhibited in several private galleries.

Recently, she has explored several different themes as the subjects of her art quilts, all of which use the natural world around us – trees, earth, sky, foliage, water, leaves, stones. Even though her art is rooted firmly in traditional quilting and stitchery, her works are quite contemporary. She chooses the beautiful hues and reflective qualities of Dupioni silks from Thailand and painstakingly hand appliques each piece of fabric and expertly quilts intricate designs onto many works.

Stephanie attended the Department of Fine Arts at Mount Allison University from 1965 to 1968 and later the Toronto New School of Art in 1969. She was employed at the National Gallery of Canada in the early 1970s as Docent, was later an Art Instructor at Algonquin College, Curator at Rideau District Museum and Curator of Hutchison House Museum until 1998. As a painter and textile artist, she has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Ontario. She currently participates in several prestigeous art festivals in Ottawa, Toronto, Rideau Valley and Merrickville and is often asked to speak about her artform.
